Born as Lionel Herbert Blythe (April 28, 1878 - November 15, 1954) in Philadelphia, Lionel Barrymore was an American actor of radio, stage, and screen as well as a film director. He was well known in his roles as Mr Potter in Frank Capra's "It's a Wonderful Life" (1946) and Mr Scrooge in Charles Dickens's "A Christmas Carol" (1938), and even won an Oscar for his performance in "A Free Soul" (1931).
